Allied Health

Suggested preparation:         Science 1, 2

                                              Counselor’s recommendation

Allied Health is a two-semester, one-hour course that introduces students to the transferable skills and technical experience needed to study and/or work in the health care industry in such areas as medical/dental assisting and rehabilitation services. 

 

Advanced Allied Health

Suggested preparation:         Allied Health

                                              Anatomy and physiology class

Advance Allied Health is a one-year, three hours per day course that builds on the academic and technical foundation in Allied Health.  Upon completing the course students will display advanced clinical skills and demonstrate skills/knowledge in a health care setting.

 

Dental Assisting I

Suggested preparation:         Science 1, 2

                                              Allied Health

                                              Recommendation of counselor

Dental Assisting I is a two-semester, three hours per day course that combines classroom training and hands on experiences.  The course is designed to prepare students to assist chairside and carry out selected dental lab work

 

Dental Assisting II

Suggested preparation:         Dental Assisting I

Dental Assisting II is a two-semester, three hours per day course that continues the training and instruction begun in Dental Assisting I.  Students are offered further training in dental assisting techniques, including radiology procedures, dental office administration, and dental office emergency procedures.

 

Medical Assisting – Clinical

Suggested preparation:         Science 1, 2

                                              Allied Health

Medical Assisting – Clinical is a one-semester, two hours per day course in which students learn the roles, responsibilities, and skills used by medical assistants.  The course is a combination of classroom and hands on training to prepare students for full- or part-time employment in medical offices or hospitals.

 

Medical Assisting – Clerical

Suggested preparation:         Science 1, 2

                                              Allied Health

                                              Recommendation of counselor

Medical Assisting – Clerical is a one-semester, one hour per day course combining classroom lectures and computer training to prepare students for full- or part-time employment in a medical office, hospital, or for at home employment as a medical biller or medical transcriptionist.

 

Nurse Assisting

Suggested preparation:         Science 1, 2

                                              Allied Health

                                              Recommendation of counselor

Nurse Assisting is a one-semester, two hours per day course combining didactic and hands on training at an approved nursing facility.  The course prepares students to assist ill or injured persons with daily personal care.  The course also prepares students for the state competency test for certification and placement on the state registry.

Physical Rehabilitation Assistant

Suggested preparation:         Science 1, 2

                                              Allied Health

                                              Anatomy and physiology class

                                              Psychology class

Physical Rehabilitation Assistant is a two-semester, two hours per day course in which students learn the roles, responsibilities, and skills used by physical rehabilitation assistants.  The course aims to prepare students for further technical training and or full- or part-time employment in physical rehabilitation services.
