Welcome to the GIS Year One Home page (Under Construction)
Students at the Michael Berry Career Center enrolled in GIS are embarking on a two year journey as they learn to use state-of-the-art computer software to map local data, as well as working with Aerial Photographs, Satellite Imagery and GPS data.
Here are examples of student GIS Projects
TimelineStudents mastered advanced techniques in Microsoft Word as they developed a timeline depicting important events in the history of Cartography (Map Making). |

Satellite Tool Kit (STK)Satellite Tool Kit is an industry standard animation and modelling package used to plan, study and present aerospace technologies. Students have to master the science of satellites in orbit as well as numerous information technology skills to produce state-of-the-art animations modelling the GPS satellite system. |

GEODESYGEODESY provides an introduction to computer mapping and GIS. Based upon ArcView 3.x technology, the program allows students to display, modify and analyze geographic data and imagery. GEODESY is used as the basis for their first project. |

Final Exam
Students used their new-found GIS skills to play the role of online newspaper columnist. Starting with an existing website or news story, they created a map to illustrate a real-life problem in their local community. They then published their map and a brief description on a webpage of their own. Click the front page to the right to access all their projects. |
