Allied Health Occupations

Students explore many health occupations and develop basic skills common to all health professions and health care. Students have the opportunity to job shadow a health professional.
  • (Year long, 2 hour block)

Advanced Allied Health Occupations

Students learn advanced medical terminology and skills. Students
participate in clinical rotations twice a week.
  • (Year long, 2 hour block)

Medical Assisting

Students perform EKGs, injections, venipunctures, and check vital signs. Students are given the opportunity to job shadow and participate in externships, preparing them for employment in an entry position at a
medical facility.
  • (Year long, 2 hour block)

Dental Assisting

Students learn dental terminology, assessment, techniques, dental
equipment, data collection, and basic dental skills, and participate in a job shadowing project with local dentists.
  • (Year long, 2 hour block)

Nurse Assisting

Students learn patient care techniques, anatomy/physiology, and medical terminology. Students visit a long term medical care facility where they are given the opportunity to deal directly with patients and patient care.

Sports Medicine / Physical Theraphy Assisting

Students learn skills relating to sports injury and trauma, rehabilitation
techniques and practices, and medical terminology. Students participate
in an off-site clinical rotation, working directly with physical therapists,
assistants and trainers.
  • (Year long, 2 hour block)

Emergency Response Training

Students learn First Aid, CPR and AED training to prepare them to respond to injuries and sudden illnesses that may arise in a variety of situations.
  • (Fall semester, 1 hour)

 Medical / Dental Receptionist

Students learn professional competencies and skills performed in the medical/dental office, and their application to real-life and on-the-job situations.
  • (Fall semester, 1 hour)

Medical Terminology

Students learn foundational studies of medical terminology: dividing words into component parts, recognizing root words, combining forms, suffixes, prefixes, and understanding medical terminology meanings.
  • (Spring semester, 1 hour)

Pre-Pharmacy

Students are introduced to pharmaceutical science, basic information
about medication and drugs, metric and apothecary systems and
calculations of basic medication dosage.
