Leadership Experience

Throughout the years I have had various leadership roles and experiences.

  • I have been a member of the Ann Arbor Center for Independent Living Youth Council since the summer of 2006. I help plan community events for teens and young adults with disabilities.
  • I participated in the Link Crew Crew Leadership program in my junior and senior years. Two upperclassmen were assigned a group of incoming freshman and played games, and showed them around school. This helped the students feel more confident about transitioning from middle school to high school.
  • When I was in 8th and 9th grades I helped organize and develop lesson plans for 4th-6th graders at my church. Instead of sitting through the service, the kids would meet with the Junior Church leader and volunteers to play games and learn about various things relating to the Bible. I helped lead the large group, and teach within smaller groups. This helped me become more comfortable with speaking within a large group and become more of a leader.
  • In tenth grade.I participated in Student Congress. This is a program where students meet at the state capital and discuss possible solutions to international current events. I was one of two students from my school that participated. We also went to the capital building and held a mock congress session.
  • In nineth grade I participated in a discussion festival, and gave a memorized speech that originally was given by someone with a disability.
