Common Types

There are thousands of varieties of apples. Four of the most popular ones are:

  • Red Delicious. These are red, sweet, juicy apples that are best eaten raw as a snack, because they are not good for cooking.
  • Granny Smith. These are green apples that are slightly tart and very crisp. They are good for snacking and cooking.
  • McIntosh. These apples are crisp and very slightly tart, and are usually red with a little bit of green. They are good for snacking and cooking.
  • Rome. These apples are yellowish green with red and are tart. They are best used for cooking
