Over my high school career, I have recieved honors, awards, and opportunities for my academic accomplishments. I am honored to have people recognize me for being one of the leaders in the future.

I have received:

  • Recognition in Who's Who Among American High School Students
  • Awarded membership by the National Society of High School Scholars
  • Awarded "Failure is Not an Option" award by Team Ford First, a group in US FIRST
  • Was an interviewee for the Ford Motor Company Internship Program in 2005 and 2007.
  • Gold F at Fordson High School.

Salleh Jahaf

Hello, my name is Salleh Jahaf. I am a senior at Fordson High School. I also attend MBCC and am taking Design Concepts classes. I took this class to have visual representation skills in order to show any ideas I have for new cars. I was born in St. Louis, Missouri and moved to Dearborn, Michigan when I was 10 years old.

I am a hard worker when I need to be. This trait is important for me because I am a part of US FIRST Robotics. I am in this national program in order to gain some background in engineering. I have taken physics and currently taking Calculus during high school. I have a 3.7 cumulative GPA. If I am to get involved in long term projects like building a robot, I want to get it right. This usually means I stay hours after school with my team to make sure everything is working. I plan on going to Lawrence Tech University and taking mechanical engineering classes. I plan on becoming a mechanical engineer at a major automotive company. I want to be a part of a new innovation that would change cars for the better. During my free time,  I like to find out new things on my computer I hadn't known before and trying them out. I keep track with things on my computer so it can stay as efficient as it was when I bought it. My other hobbies are video games and playing basketball. I also like watching the Discovery Channel because I am interested with the new technology that is popping up in the world. It gives me an idea of where engineering is heading in the future.

Text and Design

This is a project I did during my first semester of Design Concepts at MBCC. This project was made on photoshop using generated shapes and one picture from the internet. The picture is in the background and I used filters to give it its color. The objective of this project is to add text into a design that I made.

These are my ideations for the text and shape project. I made 5 designs with color and various shapes with some text. When I was drawing these designs, I focused on balance, emphasis, movement, and pattern.

These drawings are developments of my fourth drawing in my ideation picture. I chose this design because of the empty space in the background. I decided to use the negative space and fill it with a background. This design did not have much organic shapes, so I decided to use the word technology as text for my design.

Literal Meaning Word Design

This is my first project done on Adobe Illustrator in my Design Concepts class. The objective of this project was to find a pair of words that have opposite meanings. I chose Micro and Macro. I chose these two words because the spelling is very similar but the meaning isn't. Once I chose my pair, I had to make a design on Illustrator using only black and white. The design had to show the literal meaning of the words.

These are my developments for the Micro Literal Meaning Design. I was looking for the best design I could use to show the meaning of micro in one picture. After some thinking, I used the idea from my third design and changed it a little bit. I used the o in micro as a magnifying lens to magnify the letters MICR.

These are my developments for the Macro Literal Meaning Design. Just like my micro design, I used my developments as ideas and changed them to a better design. Similar to my micro design, I used one letter to display the meaning of the word and the other four letters to spell out the word.

Magazine Ad

This is a project I did during my first semester of Design Concepts. This magazine ad design was made on Adobe Illustrator. I made and tweaked the pictures on photoshop first because of its many options to customize my pictures. This magazine ad is advertising the Nintendo Wii, a video game console. I chose a dark background because the games are set in Medieval times. I altered various parts of the suit of armor on photoshop by replacing the helmet with a man's head. I also replaced the handle of the sword with the Wii remote to show the remote controls the sword by using arm movement. The objective of this project was to research and design a magazine ad based on a targeted demographic. My targeted demographic was all males and females 13-26 years old with moderate to high income. My concept of the ad was immersing yourself into the game.

This is my ideation for my Nintendo ad. I was trying out different layouts for my text and pictures. I chose this text because it best shows the why the Nintendo Wii was designed and manufactured.

This is the development of my ideation. I chose my font style and what style of game I want to use in the ad. I chose a medieval game, so I designed the ad with medieval style. The two emphasized words in my slogan are written in old english. I had the idea of a man in a suit of armor, but I wanted the ad to say that the gamer is in the armor, not an actual knight. In my final picture, I chose my filtered background, screenshots, and suit of armor.

First Photoshop Project

This was my first ever photoshop project in the beginning of my first semester of Design Concepts. Mr. Bazzi let us explore photoshop by taking various pictures from the internet and experiment with the various effects within photoshop. I mainly used filters and opacity changes. I overlapped the pictures over each other. I never had any prior experience to photoshop.

PUMA AD

This is a project I did during my first semester of Design Concepts. This is a magazine ad like the one to the left, but everyone had to design a magazine ad about PUMA. The ads were diversified by giving a pair of students a different branch of PUMA. The different branches had their own websites. We had to design an ad based on that website. My ad was based on the soccer branch of PUMA. My concept was showing that PUMA shoes could be used by professional athletes and by recreational players.

This is the developed drawing of my Puma ad. I chose two backgrounds to get the message of my ad to the viewers. I didn't choose which slogan I would've used for the ad when I made this drawing.

Photoshop Background

This is a background I did on photoshop. The two lightning strikes are duplicates of one lightning strike. Once I duplicated the lightning, I inverted and rotated the picture and put the two pictures opposite of each other. I used the clone tool for the purple smoke effect. I also layered the moon under the lightning. The mountain range on the bottom of the picture are duplicates of one mountain range then brought together and refined using the clone tool and blur tool.

Mouse Design

My first mouse design a long shape to it with the addition of a slender tail. The upper part of the mouse has a convex shape to fit into the palm. The lower part of the mouse has a slender tail for the wrist to lay on. The left part of the mouse has a pocket where the thumb rests. The right part of the mouse has grooves where the unused fingers rest. The pocket on the left side has an encased button which the thumb can press. The encasing can be adjusted to fit your thumb. The middle of your thumb will be touching two buttons, positive and negative. The pocket will also have a comfortable lining for your tumb. The upper part of the mouse will have a right click, a left click, and a scroll wheel. The tail of the mouse can collapse inwards if you do not want the tail to be present.

I started creating a 3D model of my mouse on a program called Rhinoceros. Here is a powerpoint show that shows the process.
