Shannon

My name is Shannon and I'm a senior at Dearborn High.  I am currently taking Design Concepts at the MBCC.

I attended River Oaks Elementary and Bryant Middle School.

I've always been interested in art, and now I'm given the opportunity to combine it with my love of technology.

In the Fall of 2008 I plan to attend HFCC for a couple of years and then continue at Wayne State or CCS.

As far as a career goes, I hope to become a Graphic Designer someday or work at an advertising firm.

Year 1

Balance Project

In the balance project, we had to combine at least two of the principles or elements of design. This is the final outcome.

Literal Word Design

For this project, we had to compare a pair of words, and show their literal meanings only through their shape, color, and positioning.

Face & Place

I really enjoyed doing the face and place project.  We were assigned to take a celebrity photograph and morph it with an animal.  As you can probably see, I chose Ellen Pompeo and turned her into a creature of the sea.  And what would a mermaid be without her oceanic surroundings?

Shape & Text

The class was given the task to create a design using shapes and text in photoshop for the first time.  We were given the chance to play with different texts, color, and shapes.  Then we brought them all together and mine can be seen above.

Mag Ad

This is one of my many ideations for my "Mag Ad".

We were each given the opportunity to choose a product that already exists and recreate their ad campaign.  I chose the Apple iPod and focused on the versatility of the product.

Rendering

Here is some samples from my sketchbook of making 2D drawings appear to be 3D using different techniques such as stippling and hatching.

Perspective

These are also from my sketchbook where we learned how to show shapes in perspective.

Mouse Project

Mouse Research

We were given the chance to go online and research two different computer mice. Then I sketched them from observation.

 Developed Sketches

We had to create a presentation board that shows our mouse idea from different views, and these are a few of my drawings.

Rendered Mouse

I took my vision of my mouse, and created it as best I could in Rhino.  Then I added a background, color and spotlights. The picture above is my final mouse.

Product Design

Frank Lloyd Wright Table

For our last project of the semester, we had the choice of either designing a package for our mouse, or create a new product.

I chose to make a coffee table inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright.  I love his unique style of stained glass and his use of natural light.

Next, we created a presentation for our product, and I chose to make a movie.

(You can watch my movie by clicking on the link below.)

Final Exam

For our Semester 1 Final, each student was given a limited number of photos to choose from and combine them to create an ad.  We could only use 1 word or a short slogan in our design.

I chose a waterfall picture and brought it together with a desert scene. I also took wheels off of a Model - T and put them on a sports car.

Year 2

Website

We created our own art school and then created a series of webpages to advertise our school.

Please click on my cover page above and see the rest of my website pages.

Furniture Design

For this project we had to create a furniture collection made of 3 pieces; a primary piece (chair), a secondary piece (table) and an accent piece (tv stand)

Above are pictures my finished pieces. To see more, please click on the link below to watch my movie!

We also did a rendered drawing of our furniture.

Photography

Here is some of my photography that I've done in my spare time. A lot of it is from up north, capturing the first snowfall. Enjoy!

Restaurant

Re-designed

We were given the task to re-design a local restaurant from top to bottom. I chose Kowloon Chinese Restaurant. Their color scheme used to be plain and boring, but not anymore! I added color and life to not only their menu, but their advertising, gift cards, and packaging as well.

This is the menu that I re-designed for my restaurant Kowloon.

Independent Series

For our last project of the semester we were given the choice to create a series of designs using various media types.  I chose to use Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop to combine the natural world with the world of technology.  In the series above, you can see the two worlds coming together as one, almost morphing into one another.

Logo Contest

We were presented with the task of designing a logo for a business called Lark Logistics.  We could use gears/wheels/circles any way we saw fit and this is my final design.
